In The Mundane

This weekend I listened to an amazing message. I’ll have it linked down below if you want to check it out. It’s really what inspired this blog post.

This message talks about how our turning points can come in the normal everyday times if we allow ourselves to be distracted by the things of God. It really challenged me that my focus should always be on God & the things above.

So let’s be real here, it’s really easy to become distracted & even frustrated when we feel like nothing is happening in our lives. You know when you’re just going through one of those seasons where nothing exciting is happening. I’ve talked before on the blog about how it’s so easy to compare our lives today when we see all the perfect moments of peoples lives splashed all over Instagram, youtube, etc. In this message Pastor, Matt talks about how in these seasons God most times is doing something huge & is giving us opportunities but if we aren’t being focused on Him that we can easily miss it.  He talks about how Peter was waiting for lunch & instead of scrolling through Instagram He decided to pray & God spoke to Him. How often do we tend to get complacent in these seasons? We’re bored nothing is happening so we just go through the motions? Instead, we should be using these seasons to really seek God out & see what opportunities He could be setting up for us. It really challenged me that even though in these seasons let’s say nothing happens it’s really important that my focus is in the right place. That I’m not allowing myself to get complacent or distracted that I need to take any opportunity to be ready because who knows what God is doing in this season, or maybe even how this season is preparing me for the next. The question I have for you is where is your focus? Are you focusing on the things of God? Are you spending time praying & listening? Or are you scrolling through your Instagram getting frustrated that nothing Instagram worthy is happening in your life? Our focus in every season should be on what God is doing & what He’s asking us to do.

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Colossians 3:1-2

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:8-9

  1. Great post and insight about where our focus should be! It’s so easy to be distracted by “worldy” things, but God desires us to keep our eyes on Him.
