Joy In All Seasons

At the beginning of 2017 the word joy kept popping up everywhere, normally when this happens I know God is trying to speak to me. Last year I quickly discovered that my word for the year was brave and so this year I figured after a week or so of the word popping up that joy was going to be my word for the year. Now if you know me personally my middle name is actually joy so I knew I would have a constant reminder with me everywhere I go. I didn’t really understand why this was my word until later on into the year. For a lot of people, 2016 was a really hard year & even though we all hoped 2017 would be better, for a lot of people it hasn’t been any better. Though this year hasn’t been terrible it hasn’t been the greatest year on record either & that’s when I realized why my word for this year was joy. Even when things are hard & aren’t going the way I like them will I still choose joy? My Dad told me when I was younger that joy isn’t supposed to just be a feeling like happiness it’s something that shouldn’t be dependent on what’s going on around you, it’s something you choose. So even though things have been hard I choose to focus on the positive & look to God. If you know me at all you know I can’t help but always be laughing my friends always insist when they’re taking photos of me to laugh. I love laughing & so even when life is hard & I want to cry I choose joy. I choose to focus on the bright side, I choose to enjoy the good moments, I choose to laugh when maybe I should cry because God is my strength & everything is in His hands. So I want to ask you, are you choosing joy in your current situation? Set your eyes on things above, focus on the good things, & even through the hard seasons, you’ll always have joy.

This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!

Nehemiah 8:10b

Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
