The Bible talks about how we’re supposed to go about living our lives. The one thing I’ve always found interesting about God is He can see our heart & the motives in which we do things. Sometimes our motives are wrong & sometimes they’re Godly & exactly how they should be. So how do we make sure that our motives in doing things are lining up with what God wants? We need to take time to reflect & ask ourselves why we’re doing what we do & if our motives line up with what God wants. This isn’t easy & can be hard at times because who wants to realize that they might be doing things for the wrong reasons. I want to encourage you when we align our lives with righteousness we are happier, more successful, & ultimately believe we’re more at peace. Let’s make sure we’re being sensitive to the Holy Spirit & living out our lives the way God wants us to. Sometimes things in our lives don’t go the way we want & that can happen because God sees our hearts & knows that the motives aren’t right. That prayer that didn’t get answered, might be because the motive in which you were praying wasn’t right. We’re human & we naturally have a sinful nature, so it’s easy at times to end up having the wrong motives. People can’t see your motives, but God sure can & our number one purpose in life should be to please God, not people. God is interested in our motives even more than our actions. His desire is to reward those whose hearts are right towards Him. This is why our lives, hearts, & minds need to be constantly surrendered to God. Our motive behind things shouldn’t be based on how other people will view us, but how God will view us. When we give ourselves over to the Holy Spirit our desires are to please Him, not ourselves, & not other people. Don’t be afraid to get before God & be open with Him about your motives. Let the Holy Spirit come & speak to you in the areas you need to change & you’ll notice greater breakthrough, greater peace & greater joy. God loves it when we obey & do things solely for Him. God wants your focus to be on Him, He’s a jealous God & He’s wanting you to be just as consumed & in love with Him as He is with you.
But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.
1 Thessalonians 2:4
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7
Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
